Nickeema Williams is a Kuku Yalanji, Koa, and Meriam Artist, Designer and community arts practitioner based in Woorabinda, Queensland (QLD. Studying at Far North Queensland Tafe she graduated with a Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Art. She started experimenting with wearable art and designs which lead to participating in the Cairns Indigenous Fair Fashion shows. Nickeema works across a range of mediums in her artistic practice from photography, painting, film and mixed media. Moving to Woorabinda 6 over years ago to live and work in the community. Mainly working to support the Youth and elders more recently focusing on running community arts programs. Advocating for First Nations voices, Digital Excellence, regional arts, and to provide more opportunities for Mob and young people.
Nickeema Williams draws from her strong heritage, history, and the environment for inspiration on her textile designs. Experimenting with colour, mark-making and the repetition of natural forms found while exploring out bush. She continues to explore how fashion and adorning the body can amplify her messages and stories.
